Brief History
Most of the Muslims in this area are students and live in College Station near Texas A&M University. There are also some Muslims who work at the University as faculty or staff, and a few who work or own businesses in the area and its surroundings. These Muslims established the Muslim Students Association (MSA) of Texas A&M University which was affiliated with the national MSA. In February 1988, the MSA chapter was evolved into the Islamic Community of Bryan/College Station (ICBCS), and it became affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). A constitution, conforming to Qur’an, Sunna (i.e., pathway – the tradition of the Messenger Muhammad peace be upon him), and the consensus of scholars of Ahl-as-Sunna wal-Jama’a (the mainstream and the overwhelming majority of Muslims throughout history), was drafted and passed by the Muslim community.
Organizational Overview
ICBCS is run by a 9-member Board of Directors (BoD) elected by the voting members (see membership page for details) of ICBCS every year. The election is held in November of each year. The newly elected BoD officially takes charge on January 1st of each year. The BoD is headed by the President of ICBCS. It is the only decision making body, and its decisions are based on consultation.
Contact the BoD for any questions, comments, suggestions, presentation requests, etc. at ec@icbcs.org.
ICBCS Membership
Membership is only required for voting and holding office, otherwise the Islamic Center and ICBCS activities are open to all Muslims. To become an ICBCS member, please download the membership form and submit it to any of the Executive Committee members along with proper dues.
