Islamic Community of Bryan-College Station

Serving Islam and Muslims since 1987

Organization

Introduction
The Islamic Community of Bryan/College Station (ICBCS) is an Islamic organization which aims to:

  • Represent Muslims and fulfill their needs in the Bryan/College Station area.
  • Impart correct knowledge and understanding of Islam to non-Muslims.
  • Details about our goals, structure, and procedures are in the ICBCS Constitution, available to the public at the library room in the Islamic Center.

Brief History
Most of the Muslims in this area are students and live in College Station near Texas A&M University. There are also some Muslims who work at the University as faculty or staff, and a few who work or own businesses in the area and its surroundings. These Muslims established the Muslim Students Association (MSA) of Texas A&M University which was affiliated with the national MSA. In February 1988, the MSA chapter was evolved into the Islamic Community of Bryan/College Station (ICBCS), and it became affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). A constitution, conforming to Qur’an, Sunna (i.e., pathway - the tradition of the Messenger Muhammad peace be upon him), and the consensus of scholars of Ahl-as-Sunna wal-Jama’a (the mainstream and the overwhelming majority of Muslims throughout history), was drafted and passed by the Muslim community.

Organizational Overview
ICBCS is run by a 9-member Executive Committee (EC) elected by the voting members (see membership page for details) of ICBCS every year. The election is held in November of each year. The newly elected EC officially takes over on January 1st. The EC is headed by the President of ICBCS. It is the only decision making body, and its decisions are based on consultation.
