The five obligatory prayers (’salah’) are established daily in the Islamic Center. There are two sets of schedules, ‘adhan‘ and ‘iqama‘, for prayers in the Bryan-College Station area. ‘Adhan’ shows the obligatory prayer timings for each prayer. It is also the time when the call to the prayers is made in the masjid (Islamic center). The obligatory prayer in the masjid starts shortly after the call to the prayers according to the time specified in ‘Iqama’ schedule. These schedules can be downloaded from the links above. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open these files.
The Islamic Center provides adequate ablution (‘wudu’) areas and parking space for both brothers and sisters.
Prayer Direction (‘Qiblah’)
Prayer direction ‘Qiblah’ is at 44 30′ N (from E).
Friday Prayer
Friday prayer always starts at 12:50 p.m. We try to finish by 1:30 p.m. particularly on class days. Friday ‘khateeb’ (speakers) are selected from the community by the Educational Officer in consultation with the ‘Fiqh’ Committee. The speech topics are left to the discretion of ‘khateeb’ within broad guidelines provided by the ‘Fiqh’ and Executive committees of ICBCS. Occasionally a guest speaker from outside the community is invited to deliver the ‘khutba’.
Ramadan and ‘Eid’
During Ramadan we pray ‘taraweeh’ daily in congregation, and in the last ten nights we pray night prayer ‘qiyam’. We usually pray both ‘Eids’ on the Texas A&M campus because of space limitations in the Center. More information about Ramadan and ‘Eid’ appear in the Guide to Activities page.
Other Prayers
We try not to miss special prayers such as lunar eclipse prayer (‘khusuf’) and solar eclipse prayer (‘kusuf’). Funeral prayers (‘janaza’) are also performed when the need arises.
Parking
While attending prayers and other programs at the Islamic center, please observe the city parking regulations. You may download our parking guide for finding appropriate parking around the center. Please note that due to continuing changes in the area, our parking guide may not always be updated.
Although the Center cannot be responsible for improper parking by attendants, it does reflect negatively on the Muslim Community and inconveniences our neighbors. Vehicles parked illegally may be towed at owner’s expense.
